PHYSIOTHERAPY
We believe that patients achieve the best outcome from their cancer treatment by engaging in physical activity and maintaining their overall wellbeing pre, post and during treatment.
Studies show that cancer patients who engage in regular physiotherapy can experience up to a 40% reduction in cancer-related fatigue.

Prehabilitation & During Treatment
In the prehabilitation phase, before active treatment, we can use screening tools and get baseline measures of patients in order to monitor progress and risk throughout treatment and recovery. Prehabilitation can also be used to improve physical fitness, strength and mobility prior to undergoing active treatment, especially in those who may be less active or have existing injuries and co-morbidities.
During active treatment, physiotherapy can be used to manage side effects of treatment such as fatigue, pain, swelling/lymphedema. It can also provide general support for the client as they navigate the treatment process while encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle as much as possible.
Long-Term
For those on long-term treatment and in the survivorship phase, physiotherapy can help with the planning to return to work and activities to create a new normal for clients.
In the palliative phase, physiotherapy assists with support for the patient, improving strength, and mobility and generally assisting with maintaining quality of life, as able.

Sarah
Encompass Health Client
"I am so grateful I was referred for specialist physiotherapy at Encompass Health. Following my mastectomy, I had restricted movement in my arms and chest, but my mobility is now just about normal. Also, Dan’s advice to do strengthening exercises is future proofing my body. Women’s bones get brittle as they age but my medication could make that worse. He’s showing me how to combat that."
