NUTRITION

People undergoing treatment for cancer have unique nutritional needs and often have elevated requirements.

Diet plays an important part in supporting you on your cancer journey. Nutrients help the growth of healthy cells in your body and allow you to maintain energy and strength levels.

Nutrition Services

Our registered dietitians work with patients to ensure they have the best diet to meet individual needs prior to, during, and after treatment. As specialists in cancer treatment, our dietitians will help you to understand the nutrients your body requires during this time.

People with cancer may find their appetite and food preferences are affected by their treatment, making it difficult to meet nutritional needs.

Before & During Treatment

A dietitian can help maximise your cancer treatment by individualising a nutrition plan for you based on your needs. This will also consider your symptoms, food preferences, lifestyle, beliefs and concerns.

Post Treatment

Once cancer treatment is complete, maintaining a healthy diet will help your body heal and offer protective effects for the future. Following a healthy eating plan can help reduce your risk of recurrence in some cancers as well as other chronic diseases.

"I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Because of this and the medication I was on I started to gain weight. I was virtually in early menopause which was having implications for my heart. The Encompass dietitian was so lovely. She helped me tweak my eating habits. She helped me make small manageable changes and I lost 6 kilos while I was with her and I am still losing. She made it achievable and made me accountable."
